P&G, AVANT-GARDE ROBOT IN THE PLANT OF GATTATICO

Gattatico (Reggio Emilia) - Industry 4.0 is already a reality in the plant of Procter & Gamble of Gattatico, where the Viakal brand and Mastro Lindo products are made and packaged: in fact the first collaborative robot, fully automated, has been installed by P&G company, and it will support the industrial activity by improving the efficiency and productivity and the quality of the production process.

This novelty emerged during the course of the open day at the Gattatico factory, a hub of ultranational importance for the U.S. multinational. Innovation in the Gattatico plant, blends with the sustainability issue since the plant has obtained the certification of  "Zero Waste" and has already reached the majority of sustainability goals set for 2020, reducing, with respect to the reference year 2010, energy consumption (-22%) and water (-21%), the emission of CO2 (-88%) thanks also to the use of energy from renewable sources. Also every year Gattatico factory uses over 1500 tonnes  of recycled plastics from industrial wastes which are then are re-used for the production of bottles of different products. "From Time – according to Franco Giannicchi, President and to P&G South Europe - we have started a process of transformation in the way in which we intend to reach the market that is based on innovation and technology. We are convinced that it is absolutely feasible to be able to reach the shelves of supermarkets in less than 24 hours from production. Especially in Gattatico, a plant that has always distinguished itself to be agile and innovative, keen on environmental sustainability and at the forefront of research and development".

The collaborative robot will significantly improve the production. In essence it is a mechanical arm that will load on production lines for materials and equipment destined for forming. In this way, efficiency will improve and the quality and productivity of the production process and, once the test phase is finished, we will proceed to its expansion in various production sites in P&G. The process consequently provides for the investment for the training of new skills of the staff so as to ensure a full operating efficiency.
